Using more than one tab

If a user has more than one Lawcus-tab open, the timer doesn't work properly. This is unsuitable for hybrid working: if the user works from the office and then sets off for court, they
have
to remember to close their tab on the pc in order to be able to work on their laptop. Furthermore, sometimes you need to quickly look up something in another screen or compare 2 documents and having 2 tabs makes this much easier.Vinny R

Vinny R I don't understand that this point will be closed immediately. I raise a problem, you ask for examples, I'll give examples and mention - for the sake of completeness - that we corrected the rates manually (we had to, because of the problem, the amount was 0 and we were unable to invoice the client).
You then blame the problem on the manual correction (which we did to fix the existing problem!!) and close my question right away? How is this possible?

Hi Devanshi,
Thanks so much for your reply!
- I've asked my colleague about the timer and the timer itself does perform as required, but the matter rate remains 0, so the client is not charged for the work she does. The account this occurs is mw. mw. A.L. Weterings, maybe this helps.
- Ofcourse, my apologies :)
- This is usually how we work, but I assumed the intructions from Fin regarding the performance of Lawcus when working in multiple tabs meant twe shouldn't.
Thanks again for diving into this!

Hello Mw. A. Joris
I checked the timer for the user you mentioned, and it's correctly logging time with the user rate.
Do you have any examples on which matter this happens, and whether the matter has any billing preferences set up?

Devanshi Kackar Hi Devanshi, thank you for looking into this matter. Some matters in which this error occurred are Taran, Roerade, Hofman, Safaryan. The matter rates have since been manually corrected, so maybe that's why the entries show up with the correct rates?
Devanshi Kackar
Mw. A. Joris: Yes, this can be the reason. If you user matter level rates then make sure all matters have a rate defined for the attorneys

Devanshi Kackar I meant that could be why you saw the times displayed correctly. The rates are correctly stored in Lawcus, they are set in this way for all users and this user alone did not run/run properly.

Hi Mw. A. Joris
Yes, if the rates were corrected manually, that would explain why those entries are now showing correctly.
While reviewing this further, I noticed a couple of additional scenarios that are causing some entries to show a $0 rate:
100% discount applied: Some timer entries have a rate assigned, but a 100% discount has been applied to them. As a result, the final amount for those entries is $0.
Activity Category rate set to $0: For this particular user, some entries were created using an Activity Category that has its rate set to $0. Since the Activity Category has a rate of $0, that rate is being applied to the entries when billing the client.
I noticed that other users are also using Activity Categories with a $0 rate, but they are manually changing the rate on their entries to the appropriate rate. This particular user has not done that, which is why their entries continue to appear with a $0 rate.
If an Activity Category is set to $0 but you still want to bill the client for those activities, you can either update the Activity Category rate or use a Custom Rate when entering the activity to override the $0 Activity Category rate.
The rate priority in Lawcus is:
Custom Rate > Activity Category Rate > Matter Rate > User Rate
This means that when an Activity Category rate is present—even if it is set to $0—it takes priority over the Matter Rate and User Rate.
I’ll also send you an email with screenshots of these examples so you can see exactly where the $0 rates are coming from.

Devanshi Kackar Thank you very much for adressing this further. I understand the order in which the system prioritizes the rates. The AI-bot said the problem was due to more tabs being opened while using the timer, so I assumed this was the problem. I will share your feedback with this user :)
Thanks again!

Hi Mw. A. Joris
I’m glad we were able to clarify this.
Please let me know if we can go ahead and close this ticket, or if there’s anything else you’d like us to review.

Good afternoon Devanshi,
As far as I'm concerned, this ticket can be closed. Thanks a lot!

Hi Mw. A. Joris,
Thank you for sharing this feedback. We understand how working across multiple devices and tabs can be important, especially in a hybrid work environment.
- Regarding the timer, could you please elaborate on the specific issue you experience when multiple Lawcus tabs are open? For example, does the timer stop, reset, show an incorrect duration, or behave differently between the tabs? This will help us understand and investigate the behavior more accurately.
- For documents, documents in Lawcus need to be downloaded before they can be viewed. Therefore, having Lawcus open in multiple tabs should not prevent you from viewing or comparing documents.
- Also, Lawcus does support having multiple tabs open simultaneously. You can work across multiple tabs; if a tab does not immediately reflect the latest changes, simply refreshing that tab should update the information.
Please share a few more details about the timer behavior, and we’ll be happy to look into it further.
